Yalova University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Esra Cizmeci Gave a Guest Lecture at Christ University in India

Prof. Dr. Esra Cizmeci Ümit, a faculty member in the Department of New Media and Communication at Yalova University, was invited as a guest lecturer by Christ (Deemed to be University), one of India's leading higher education institutions, to conduct an international online class.
In the course organised with the participation of students and academics from the Department of English Language and Cultural Studies, Prof. Dr. Ümit addressed the topics of self-construction in the digital age, online identity, visibility culture, and digital fatigue with her presentation titled "Forming the Self Online: Identity, Visibility, and Digital Fatigue in the Age of Social Media."
Within the course, the effects of social media platforms on individual identity formation, the role of algorithms in visibility processes, the pressure of being constantly online, and its psychological and societal consequences were evaluated in light of current communication theories. The presentation also emphasised how digital culture transforms the ways individuals express themselves and how performative self-presentation in social media environments is becoming increasingly visible.
In the question-and-answer session held after the lecture, students shared their views on conscious disengagement from social media, performative behaviours in daily life, the pressure of digital visibility, and online identity formation, engaging in a comprehensive academic discussion on the topics covered in the presentation.
At the end of the event, the faculty members of Christ University expressed their gratitude to Prof. Dr. Ümit for his presentation, which contributed to current discussions on digital communication. Prof. Dr. Ümit, expressing his gratitude to the academics and students of Christ University for their kind invitation and keen interest, stated that the development of international academic collaborations is of great importance for the sharing of scientific knowledge.
